Embraced is not anti-alcohol.
Embraced advocates not drinking alcohol during pregnancy (and during breastfeeding). There are 50 years of solid research stating prenatal alcohol exposure causes permanent brain-body injuries. Not all children are affected the same way—some a little, others much. Either way, the spectrum lasts a lifetime.
Embraced would like to see a stronger position and message to “don’t drink while pregnant” in the same way there is a message, not to drink alcohol while operating machinery, and don’t drink alcohol if you are underage.
Embraced states that FASD is entirely preventable, which is true since alcohol-related brain-body injuries only happen during the development of the fetus (and while breastfeeding). We also know there is more to these words than just making a statement. The stigma toward birth mothers who struggle with addictions needs to change, generational trauma needs to be addressed, and many other things go into stating, “FASD is entirely preventable”. The documentary will address these bigger topics related to alcohol and the prevention of FASD.
